1.  Take Prenatal Vitamins

It is good to begin taking prenatal vitamins at least 3 months before you are planning to become pregnant or as soon as you find out you are pregnant. B vitamins are especially important for preventing and lessening the effects of morning sickness. Folate or folic acid is critical for preventing spina bifida and other neural tube defects from developing in your baby while you are pregnant.

I really love these prenatal vitamins because they don’t make me nauseous like other brands. I also like that they have DHA, Iron, Folate, in addition to the regular vitamins that brands normally include in a vitamin. I really wish they would bring back their gummy vitamins because they were down right delicious and because I looked forward to taking them everyday, I actually remembered to take them. They were basically candy and they didn’t have a funny aftertaste like some gummy vitamins do. These vitamins are a decent alternative if you are looking for a gummy vitamin.

2.  Setup Prenatal Appointments

It is good to get prenatal care so you can ensure that you are having a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. Many illnesses can be caught early with proper prenatal care. There are certain tests and preventatives that you need to ensure that you and your baby will be healthy while pregnant and after you give birth.

3.  Workout

While pregnant, working out will help you maintain a healthy weight and will help lessen your chances of developing pregnancy complications.

It will also help you get in good shape for labor and it will help you keep a good workout regimen that will also help you recover from delivery faster and lose your pregnancy weight faster.

I really liked going to the gym and doing some simple yoga poses while pregnant. It helped keep me at a healthy weight and in good shape for labor and I would absolutely do the same routine with my next pregnancy.

Be sure to check with your doctor while you are pregnant so they know what kind of exercises you are doing and whether they are safe for you to do while pregnant.

4.  Limit Your Sweets

The last thing you want is to have gestational diabetes if you can avoid it. It makes you more likely to have diabetes after pregnancy and during subsequent pregnancies. Also, eating a lot of sweets will cause you to pack on unnecessary weight.

5.  Cut Down on Processed, Junk, and Fried Food

You need to eat a healthy diet instead of processed foods so you can properly nourish yourself and your baby. Your fatigue will worse if you are sluggish from unhealthy foods. Fried and processed will cause you to put on unnecessary weight as well. It is good to indulge every once in a while, but you should eat mostly healthy foods so you can prevent yourself from having high blood pressure during pregnancy as well.

6.  Sign Up for Freebies

Freebies are one of the easiest things for you to do while pregnant. You will be able to see samples of various baby products as well as coupons that you can use after your baby shower.

There are plenty of freebies that you should be signing up for.  I wrote an article about the 8 Things in the Target Baby Registry Gift Bag.

7.  Create Your Registry

You probably are itching to go baby shopping as soon as you find out you are pregnant, especially if this is your first baby.

It is a good idea to start your registry sooner than later just so you can add things to it as soon as you see them. I found it helpful to add everything that I liked to the registry and just eliminate items from the list as I found better or cheaper options.

8.  Shop Clearances

While pregnant, even if you are planning on having a baby shower, it is a good idea to buy clearanced items that you know you are going to want. If you get those items at your baby shower, you can just return them. If you don’t get the items, at least you bought your own. While pregnant, it is a good idea to buy items that you won’t put on your registry but see on clearance.

9.  Drink Water

Drinking plenty of water is critical while pregnant. Water is needed to create the extra blood your body needs to support the growth of the baby; it is also needed to supply the gestational sac with amniotic fluid in addition to being used to grow your baby.

If you are going to breastfeed, you are going to need plenty of water so you can produce milk. It will also help you lose your water weight because your body will understand that it doesn’t need to retain water in strange areas of your body in order to keep you hydrated, you will keep you hydrated by drinking water.

This is my favorite water bottle, especially since it fits into my car’s cup holder well and it is insulated, so your cold drink will stay cold and your hot drink will stay hot. I like that it is go large because I can fill it with cold water and leave it in my car while shopping in the middle of summer and not have to worry about the water getting hot.

I generally don’t feel the need to take it into stores because I like to drink a lot of water at once instead of constantly sipping, but there is a smaller version of this bottle if you are someone that wants a more portable bottle.

10. Get Some Sleep

Fatigue is overwhelming during pregnancy, especially during the hot summer months. Especially during the early months as your body is becoming adjusted to being pregnant, you will need extra sleep to help restore your body and grow your baby. Getting enough sleep will help lessen the effects of “pregnancy brain” as well.

Make sure that you are taking good care of your body while pregnant. Your body will be healthier and you might even be able to avoid some health issues that you could experience while pregnant if you make sure you are taking good care of yourself and getting enough sleep.
