I did a lot of research when looking for a baby bottle brand to add to my baby registry. I knew that I wanted to find a bottle that was BPA free, durable, easy to clean, very breast-like, and reasonably priced. Ultimately I decided to go with Boon Nursh baby bottles, but I did a lot of research before deciding on them.
My Baby Bottle Research Process
I knew that with all of the reports coming out on BPA, I wouldn’t want a plastic bottle. Some reports say that cheaper quality silicone can leach chemicals at about 300°F whereas plastic will leach chemicals when it gets above room temperature and as it degrades over time.
I considered getting glass bottles, but I knew that they wouldn’t be all that durable or practical for a baby to wield. Babies love playing what is commonly referred to as the “Pickup Game”, where they will throw whatever object they are holding on the floor numerous times for you to pick up. That doesn’t work very well when it comes to a glass bottle.
Although some glass bottle brands included a silicone sleeve to help prevent breakage, it isn’t a good idea for a baby to have. I broke a glass water bottle that had a silicone sleeve after setting it down on concrete.
I thought that a steel bottle would be durable and BPA free. However, I learned that the acids in milk and other beverages can cause the metal bottles to leach chemicals into the milk. I considered purchasing these metal bottles, but they are a little pricey and there was an issue with them having exposed lead joints because the bottles were insulated. The issue is fixed now, but I knew that the bottle would probably be a little too heavy for my son to hold on his own and that it would be better to get him a lighter bottle now and this bottle later.

My Experience with Boon Nursh Bottles
My sister-in-law gave me a set at my baby shower and being able to see them in person helped confirm that I would love them. After my baby shower, I kept my eye out for them to go on sale and as soon as they did, I ordered more bottles and the other components I would need so I would have a complete system for my son to grow with.
I bought two packs of 4-ounce bottles and two packs of 8-ounce bottles. I had a gut feeling that I wouldn’t be using the 4-ounce bottles for very long. So, I washed up a set of the 8-ounce bottles so they would be ready when we got home from the hospital.
The way he breastfed while we were still in the hospital made me certain that we wouldn’t be using the 4-ounce bottles long enough for it to be practical to keep them. So, I returned the 4-ounce bottles and bought more 8-ounce bottles instead. I kept looking for the sippy nipples to go on sale and once they did, I snagged some up.
The bottles are easy to clean and assemble and we never had any issues with nipple confusion. I love having the 8-ounce capacity because that is enough for my son to drink at one session. Although my son can drink frequently, the 8-ounce capacity ensure that he is drinking enough to be sated, while also preventing him from drinking so much that it is difficult to burp him.
Boon Nursh Baby Bottle Pros
BPA free
The bottle sleeves are made of food-grade silicone which is BPA free. With more and more studies being done on the dangers of plastics and other endocrine disruptors, this gives me peace of mind.
If your bottle ever leaks, make sure that you have the nipple seated correctly and that the edge of the silicone sleeve is properly seated on the rim of the shell of the bottle.
Breast-like
I didn’t have any nipple confusion issues with my son while using these bottles. However, he did prefer the bottles to me after I was gone for about a month in the hospital. I can’t blame him, it is easier to drink from a bottle than it is from a breast.
Milk Only Touches Silicone
The best part about these bottles is that the milk only ever touches silicone. The nipple and the top edge of the sleeve seal together to prevent leaks.
Durable
The shell is made of a ridged plastic that is thick enough to be strong without being bulky. The bottle is just small enough to fit into a car seat cup holder (about as wide as my Contigo coffee cup).
There are large cutouts on each side of the bottle so you can easily see how full it is. The measurements (in ounces) are etched into both sides of the plastic shell.
Independent Baby Friendly
The cutouts provide your baby with a gripping area, so they are able to easily hold the bottle on their own.
Air Free Feeding
The pouch collapses as the baby drinks because the bottle seals completely and doesn’t leak. This is how their anti-colic design works. You don’t have to worry about any venting systems or anything else unlike some other brands. I’m really glad I don’t have to have to deal with a bunch of tiny, hard to clean parts.
Freezable
You can freeze your milk directly in the bottle. Just make sure you leave enough room for the milk to expand as it freezes. This works well in the summertime, just fill the bottle with a couple ounces of milk and freeze; once frozen, fill the bottle with milk and shake it up. Let it settle for a minute and give your baby a cool drink.
Bottle Warmer Friendly
I didn’t use a bottle warmer with my son, but Boon now offers a bottle warmer. From the bottle reviews on Amazon, it seems as though any bottle warmer with at least a 3 inch space for a bottle could work though.
Easy to Clean
When you first get the bottles, you need to wash them and boil the nipples and sleeves. After the initial boiling process, you don’t need to boil them after every wash, although you can.
Don’t boil the colored shell of the bottle because it is made of plastic and it will melt.
Sterilizable
You can sterilize the silicone components of the bottle in whatever bottle sterilization system you have.
Microwavable
Although you should never heat your baby’s milk in a microwave, you can sterilize the silicone components in the microwave.
Dishwasher Safe
Boon Nursh baby bottles are dishwasher safe. They get cleaned best in the top rack.
Grows with the Baby
The breast-like nipples come in four stages including: extra slow, slow, medium, and fast flow. The extra slow flow nipple is really intended for premature babies. If you buy a basic set of bottles, they will come with the slow flow nipples. So just keep that in mind if you are buying for a premie or an older baby.
Once your baby gets past the breast nipple stage, they offer a sippy nipple to grow with your baby. I love that this is a complete system that can grow with the baby from birth until they are using adult cups and bottles.
Breast Pump Adapters Available
I have a Spectra S1 breast pump and used my Boon Nursh to Spectra breast pump adapter to pump my breastmilk directly into the Boon Nursh baby bottle. This Spectra adapter also works with Avent pumps as well.
Affordable
They are $19.99 for a set of three (at the time of writing) and you can usually find a coupon in Target Circle or on Amazon. These bottles are a very good buy, especially if you are having multiple children. My son is a year old now and I’ve yet to need to replace any of my components.
I will absolutely be stashing these bottles away so they will be ready for my next baby.
Bite Proof
My son LOVES to bite the nipples and they have shown no sign of giving in. Some bottles nipples from other brands haven’t been able to withstand a teething baby, Boon Nursh isn’t one of them. The last thing we need is for our babies to choke on a nipple that they have bitten off.
Update 1: So….after about 6 months of enduring a teething toddler, a sippy nipple gave in. I’m really impressed with these sippy nipples despite the fact that he finally bit through one. As the oldest of four children, I have seen sippy nipples that don’t even make it 24 hours before being bitten through. With these Boon Nursh bottles lasting for a good portion of his teething, I really can’t complain.
Update 2: I switched him to a 360 cup. (I’m not mentioning the 360 cup brand because the cups began leaking and the silicone on the lid was cracking and ripping away after not even a month of use. The store took them off the market and I’m sure it was because I wasn’t the only parent that complained.
Update 3: I switched him to a Contigo water bottle with a straw that was eventually recalled because the mouth piece came apart. They fixed the issue and I bought several of their larger sized bottles to accommodate my son’s needs. Both of these bottles were cheaper at Target when I bought them, but I’m sure the prices will keep changing.
No Slimy Business Practices
I love that everything comes in sets of three, so you don’t have extra of anything, and everything goes well together…unlike hotdogs and hotdog buns.
Cute Colors
Having bottles with different colors makes it a lot easier to remember if that bottle was from this morning or yesterday. It is easy to leave a bottle here, the baby will toss one over there, and before you know it, you have 5 bottles out and they all smell the same.
I find that it is helpful for me to pick a color for that day and if it isn’t that color, it must be old.
They have great colors to choose from so you can have some that are boyish, girlish, or gender neutral. I prefer gender neutral bottle colors because I will be using these bottles for all of my children.
Survives Multiple Children
I’m currently using this system for my second child and it is holding up very well. The plastic sleeves are holding strong and the nipples that I’ve stored in my house have held up well.
Note: I would recommend that if you are storing this system, make sure you are storing it in an air conditioned space. Otherwise the nipples might start degrading and will be discolored.
Boon Nursh Baby Bottle Cons
Not Sold Limited Options in Physical Stores
Target sells bottle drying racks and some other accessories, but I have yet to find any bottles or nipples as regular stock at their stores.
However, Walmart has started selling them in their physical stores, so probably depending on the location you can find some in stores if you needed to.
So make sure you have plenty on hand and in your car so if you lose one, you aren’t out of luck in case they are sold out or your particular location doesn’t carry them.
Plastic Shell
For us ecofriendly and health conscious mamas, the plastic shell is a little disheartening. I would love to see a version that has a wood or metal shell instead of the plastic.
Summary:
I would absolutely recommend Boon Nursh bottles to anyone looking for a good quality set of bottles to grow with their baby.
The three stages of breast-like nipples and sippy nipples will grow well with your baby and cover their needs.
It is an affordable, durable, and practical bottle system that is BPA-free and only allows the milk to touch high quality food grade silicone. If you liked this review, check out this review on the Moby Classic Wrap Baby Carrier.
